Post Colorado Cup Pop went on break to recuperate and spend some time doing summer things. That doesn’t mean that Pop wasn’t working hard during our time off, we participated in twice a week workouts plus anything extra people were doing! Following the break Pop came back to practice with determination to be well prepared for Labor Day. We knew we would be given the chance to rematch against Nightlock who we had extremely competitive games against at Colorado Cup, which helped fuel our fire.
It felt like August flew by and in no time at all it was Labor Day weekend! Pop jetted off to Livermore, CA for the tournament. We were worried about the conditions that the fields were going to be in with the drought in Cali. We were pleasantly surprised with the lush fields we were provided with. The tournament itself was small with only 7 teams total. Pool play was round robin style with 65 minute games. With the short rounds all of the games were very close the whole time. We came out of pool play with only one lose to LA Viva on universe point. We managed to secure wins over the Nightlock and Underground the teams ranked above us in the tournament. We won our semifinal game against Jackwagon and met Nightlock again in the finals. They came out with a vengeance and played aggressive ultimate. We took second place at Labor Day and had some great team bonding that brought our team even closer together.
The following weekend after Labor Day we had Sectionals in Wisconsin Dells. It was a short one day tournament where we played Milwaukee WUT and Snap. We won the tournament and proceed to have some team Olympics so we could spend a little more time together. The Olympics were a riot and smiles could be seen on everyone’s faces.
Up next is regionals this weekend! There is only one bid for our region and our main competition will be Heist. We have already seen them twice this season at Colorado Cup and the rematch should be very exciting!
